Students from Gesima ward in Kitutu Masaba constituency who will manage to be selected to national schools in this year’s KCPE exams and subsequent tests will be sponsored for all their studies, the area MCA has said.
Speaking at Riakworo primary school on Thursday when he launched a ward examination that will be carried out every term, Ken Atuti said he will sponsor all students who will manage to secure slots at national schools.
He said the move will give students a challenge to compete for the scholarship besides improving the education standards in the region.
“Our academic standards have been crippling. But by giving these students scholarships after their KCPE exams, this will increase the urge among them to compete. I believe the aftermath of the competition will better our results in national exams,” he said.
The URP MCA said his administration will also sponsor needy bright students in all the 18 primary schools from the ward besides promising to reward teachers who show commitment in delivery.
“I want to also remind you that my administration will support needy performing students across the ward. We want to ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity towards academics. Therefore, I will also reward our teachers who will show exemplary performance,” he said.
However, Atuti raised an alarm over teachers who are said to be reporting to school while drunk and urged education officers to act on them.
“The number of teachers taking the illicit brew has drastically increased I our institutions. I have already liaised with education officers and I hope they will act in time,” he added.
