Ngewa MCA Karungo wa Thang’wa has asked the government to consider first giving milk to primary school pupils instead of the much hyped laptops.
The MCA says the government should fulfil the promise which is more inclusive than the laptop project which has faced numerous challenges stalling implementation. He said the milk programme also puts the dairy farmers on board creating a source of income for them.
“I would like to ask the Jubilee government that even before they can give kids laptops, let them give milk first since it was a promise. I will continue pushing for primary school kids to get free milk either through the government or myself”, the journalist cum politician said.
Thang’wa was speaking when flagging off a Kenya Red Cross walk in Ngewa where he promised that he will ensure that pupils in his Ngewa Ward are provided with free milk before 2017 through his own initiative.
The free milk program, which was one of Jubilee campaign promises but yet to be rolled out, has seen some ambitious counties like Mombasa launch it in primary schools as they await the national government to do so.
During the Ngewa walk, where more than four hundred pupils participated, the Kenya Red Cross promised to provide first aid kids to some selected schools in Ngewa and Komothai.
