Kiambu County Assembly is set to discuss a motion on the activities and services offered by Community Health Workers (CHWs) in the county which have not been valued before despite their importance.
Gatuanyaga MCA Cecilia Wamaitha is set to table the motion to ensure each and every person has the right to the highest standard of health care.
Wamaitha says Kiambu County so far has more than 2,840 Community Health Workers both trained and untrained.
She insisted that the required number of CHWs in the county is 3,990 considering that most of the areas like semi-arid where she represents have no doctors.
Wamaitha said that volunteers are not paid though the County Health Executive member had expressed the need to pay them adding that there were Sh2,000 per month per volunteer as set aside by his department.
“The county needs to come up with a good policy on how to deal with health workers. Provide them with uniforms for identification; submit progress reports on monthly basis for adoption on primary health care in the county,” said MCA Wamaitha.
Wamaitha was speaking in her Ward on Monday when she met with the county CHWs in the area to deliberate on how they will work under the newly opened dispensary by Governor William Kabogo.
