Mwingi Central MCA Mary Kanini has called upon the local residents to harvest rainwater in a bid to end water shortage in the region.

Speaking to the press in Mwingi on Friday, the legislator said that the residents can collect the water and store the same for future use. The vocal leader said that the area residents have suffered greatly because of dry taps in the recent past, adding that they can solve the problem themselves.

“Residents should collect water from their roofs and other potential water harvesting points,” Kanini said, as quoted by the Star.

This is after the locals urged Kiambere Mwingi Water and Sanitation Company, to step up its supply of water to their homes.

The lawmaker also hailed the county government for installing street lights in the area, noting that the incidents of crime have reduced drastically following the new development.

Residents of this region have been compelled to walk for miles in order to fetch water for their home use. The county and national government are working on different plans to ensure that the problem is resolved.
