Subukia Ward MCA Peter Mwanjo has accused the Nakuru County Government of laxity, saying it is only reactive rather than being proactive when it comes to dealing with disasters.
Mwanjo has attributed this to what he says is the county government’s failure to fence Subukia Dam, despite a number of people drowning there.
"The County Government Executives only know how to follow the Governor where he is going, but they do not implement what he orders them,” said Mwanjo.
Mwanjo said that Governor Kinuthia Mbugua ordered that the dam be fenced two years ago after two people died there but it is yet to be done.
"The two County Executives for Water and Roads were given the responsibility to fence the dam but they always say that they have no resources to do the work,” he said.
The MCA is now appealing to the County Finance Department to release funds for the fencing of the dam.
"Let the Finance executive release money for this work without much ado. We do not want to see them rush here after another person has drowned,” he said.
Mwanjo was addressing journalists yesterday in his Subukia ward while visiting the dam.
