Kisumu County Nominated MCA Farida Salim has asked women talented in fashion designing to partner with Kisumu Garment Making Cluster Initiative funded by COMESA and European Union.
MCA Salim said that the Kisumu Garment Making Cluster Initiative will offer free training at RIAT Training Institute adding that those women already with an Idea on design should take advantage of that.
"Through the training the women will perfect their skills and make quality garments as a way of improving their knowledge and skills,” said Salim.
Speaking to Journalists at the County Assembly premises Wednesday, Salim said that the Kisumu Garment Making Cluster Initiative aims to establish Kisumu products for export to the outside markets.
"Smale-scale dress makers have been in business without growth. Some of the dress makers have done it for 20 to 30 years and this is now the greatest opportunity for our women to improve their lives,” said MCA Salim.
She added, “The idea concept has come at the right time when Kisumu will have an Export Processing Zone plant started."
Salim said that she anticipates that the trained women will be employed soon by just to be set up Export Processing Zone (EPZ) In the City.
