Hellsgate MCA Jonathan Warothe has said that the Nakuru County Government risks losing revenue, following an alleged grabbing of part of a road leading to Lake Naivasha by a private developer.

The action has led to violent demonstrations for the better part of this week, with residents maintaining that the developer must open the road.

“Limiting access to the lake for both the public and the fishermen is going to be detrimental to the County government,” said Warothe.

“We know that the fishermen pay levies to the county government for the fish they get from the lake. We are also aware that the public use the Karagita Public Open Beach to relax but the entry is now closed,” added Warothe.

Warothe further asked the area leaders and residents to work together to repossess the road, saying it will have a greater effect in the future if not immediately reclaimed.

“All the public access to the lake was all closed and this was the only one remaining. We cannot allow our children to be climbing trees to see the lake,” added Warothe.

The MCA was speaking in Karagita on Friday during a fishermen protest over the same matter.
