Addressing the press on Tuesday in Kisii town, Ombati called on young women who are newly married to ensure they acquire national IDs and voters' cards to participate in the forthcoming election.

“Young women should exercise their democratic right in the forthcoming general elections and let them acquire voting cards,” said Ombati.

“If we acquire more IDs and voting cards it will be one way we can safeguard and exercise our democratic rights while ensuring the region gets the leaders it deserves in development," added Ombati.

She is also Kitutu Chache Central ward MCA aspirant.

"As women and as leaders, we are very disappointed by the fact that many of us, especially the youthful ones, have not yet registered as voters. The low numbers of people registering could be a burden for the region," insisted MCA.

The MCA urged women not to leave political matters and decisions solely in the hands of their husbands and male relatives, saying they too had a stake in the country's welfare and future.

She attributed low voter registration to lack of IDs among women and youth in the county.
