Biashara Member of County Assembly (MCA), Stephen Kuria has urged the government to address the ongoing teachers strike.
Kuria said that the government is taking too long to stop the teachers strike.
“The government must talk with teachers and end the strike because it’s hurting the lives of our children,” said Kuria.
The MCA said that it is a shame that the government continues to keep silent while student are at home as a result of the strike.
He said that teachers’ demands must be addressed to end the strike that has paralyzed learning in public schools across the country.
The Ward representative also called on teachers to soften their demands and allow for more dialogue.
Kuria asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to intervene saying that government officials mandated to handle the education issues are unable to do so.
The MCA spoke as teachers union officials vow to continue with the strike.
In Nakuru, teachers in public schools have kept off classrooms since Monday but learning is in top gear in private schools.
Jacinta Nyamasia, a parent at Bahati ward said that the strike will affect student’s performance in end term examination.
“Our request is to the government to address the issues being raised by teachers so that our kids can go to school,” she said.
