Kondele Member of County Assembly (MCA) Joachim Oketch famously known as Swagga, has vowed to disobey Kisumu County Assembly Speaker George Onyango Oloo’s order against him and two other MCAs.
On Tuesday, speaker Oloo gave an order suspending Swagga for a period of 21 days alongside his Nyalenda A counterpart Jackton Ogendo.
The two leaders together with Nyalenda B MCA Joseph Olale who was suspended for 14 sittings, are accused of using un-parliamentary language against some of their colleagues during an informal sitting on Monday. They are further accused of behaving in a grossly disorderly manner.
Speaking in Kisumu on Saturday, Swagga said that he will not obey the orders adding that they were in an informal meeting, where the Speaker is not supposed to invoke his powers.
“We were in a Kamkunji, which is an informal sitting where the Speaker does not come with authority that is bestowed on him as the Speaker but only comes only as a member of the house,” said the MCA.
“An informal sitting where we came in slippers, we came wearing shorts, some came wearing vests and even the language we were using was local which is not allowed in the standing orders. So the speaker cannot invoke his powers,” added the first time MCA.
