Kemera ward representative James Mating’a wants action taken against Nyamira County askaris who beat up area residents who were protesting over poor roads.
The residents held demonstrations on Thursday to lament over impassable Omogochoro –Nyakwara-kiomaneira road in their ward and it is alleged that county askaris roughed them up, an incident that saw some of them sustain injuries.
Speaking in Nyamira town, Mating’a noted that is the right of the residents to demonstrate when seeking services from the county government, and accused the askaris of caning them.
He now wants action taken against those found culpable of the offence.
"The county government has allocated funds for construction of roads in its budget for the 2015-16 financial year including my ward. The Omogochoro–Nyakwara-Kiomaneira road is impassable. It was to be rehabilitaed in the last financial year but there was no money,” said the MCA.
“My residents were demanding for their right. Investigations should be launched into the matter and those found guilty to face the law,” added Mating’a.
