Speaking in his office at Witeithie, the MCA called on the Kiambu County Health CEC Jonah Mwangi to act with speed over the cry of the residents.

He said that expectant mothers are at a risk of dying due to delivering at home as they are forced to travel to Thika Level Five Hospital to seek assistance.

“We need to take this as a serious problem. I have communicated to the health CEC after the residents raised the alarm about the facility,” Muiruri said.

He added that cases of child trafficking have been brought about by mothers delivering at home as mothers sell their babies soon after giving birth.

The area has no public health facility despite Kiambu County Public health officer Flora Gakui warning over the poor waste disposal in the area.

Gakui said that the residents need a public health facility near them as most of those who live in Witeithie estate are not able to access the private hospitals nor get to Thika Level Five Hospital in time.
