A Member of the Kisii County Assembly has written to the county government demanding the immediate withdrawal of enforcement officers stationed at Kiogoro trading center.
This comes a week after angry Bodaboda operators demonstrated in the trading center accusing the officers of using excessive force when executing their duties.
Speaking at the trading center on Wednesday, Kiogoro MCA Samuel Apoko said he had given the county leadership a week to eject the officers attached at the center and demanded sacking of those allegedly involved in harassing traders.
He said the move will bring about sanity in the area and warned of unspecified consequences if the county leadership failed to heed the demands.
“The people have decided and as their leader, I have written to the responsible authorities. We cannot allow people to intimidate residents in the name of executing their duties.
The law must be followed to the latter and the county leadership has a week to act or we use other channels to restore sanity in our county,” Apoko said.
According to him, the officers had "overstepped their mandate" by arresting motorists who were allegedly speeding and terrorising bodaboda riders who had not received official county receipts legalising their business.
“Sometimes we have to be fair enough. You cannot expect someone to have a receipt that the county had delayed in issuing. I am told they harass people who had applied for stickers legalising Bodaboda business and arresting those allegedly overspeeding. That is overstepping their mandate,” he said.
Apoko called for sanity among enforcement officers in the county and urged them to exercise fairness or face the wrath from people’s representatives.
