Mwaniki was speaking this on Wednesday when he addressed members of a women group and other residents at a proposed market project adjacent to the college at Teachers estate while in company of the area Mp David Gikaria.

According to the MCA, Nakuru town has no original oriented university of its own despite it being a key urban setup in the country. He observed that most higher learning institutions in the town are constituents of universities outside the region a fact that justifies KITI a long lasting middle level training institution to be elevated to a university level.

“We have no university of our own. All we see around are campuses of universities outside Nakuru yet we are big enough to own a university. It is high time KITI became a higher learning institution because it has a capacity to meet such standards,’’ said the MCA.

He promised to lobby for the proposal by rallying other leaders and the county government behind the suggestion that would find its way to the national assembly next year. He observed that such a move would spur development in the area as witnessed elsewhere.
