Kivumbini Ward MCA Vitalis Okelo has supported an investigation against the county assembly members who were involved in a series of lawlessness in the assembly recently.
According to Okelo, the acts, pitying the ousted Deputy Speaker Samuel Tonui, Speaker Susan Kiheka, a former House Majority leader Njenga Mwaura and an incoming one Samuel Waithaka painted the house in a bad picture.
Speaking to this writer, the opposition member of the county assembly observed that what the members did was an expression of greed and non respect to the rule of law, and deserves to be punished not only by their parties, but by a court of law.
According to Okelo, the Members of the County Assembly who took part in the violence on the floor of the house and within the assembly compound were serving the interests of their political masters, while pretending ignorance of the law and the house standing orders.
“If this is what our colleagues call the power of numbers, then it is unfortunate. They have failed to use the numbers to serve the public good and are expressing their greediness in a respected public institution. They should be investigated and punished by both their parties and law courts,” said Okelo.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) MCA noted that the disgruntled house members had been attending secret meetings behind the scenes, before they indulged in the unlawful acts.
President Uhuru Kenyatta, who leads The Party of National Unity (TNU), and the Deputy President William Ruto who respectively leads the United Republican Party (URP) that form the ruling Jubilee Alliance coalition have since ordered an investigation into the ugly incident in the house early last week.
