Athi River Member of County assembly Michael Mutua has called upon the traders from Athi River town not to comply with the high license fees introduced, and instead continue paying the old fees.
This is after the traders launched a complaint over heightened license fees by the County finance ministry.
Speaking on Monday while addressing residents in Athi River town, Mutua noted that a license bill was ready to be tabled in the County assembly to address the escalated license fees.
Mutua further said that he had consulted with the County Revenue Director Mutia Musembi on the same issue.
“There is a license Bill ready to be tabled in the County assembly so as to tackle the license fees problem. I have also talked to the director of revenue allocation that the traders continue paying the previous amounts,” said Mutua.
The MCA however promised the traders, who had paid the extra fees already would have their money refunded or pushed to the next financial year.
Mutua urged the County government through the Ministry of finance to scrap out the newly introduced fire fee license as it is an oppression to the small businesses that already paid the license fee.
“The ministry of finance should remove the finance fee which is an extra cost of Sh4,000. This is a big sum for the upcoming businesses,” he added.
