Raila’s trip comes amid deep crisis among top party members in the region with West Mugirango MP James Gesami understandably planning to run against incumbent Governor John Nyagarama, while the party’s national treasurer Timothy Bosire is reportedly at logger heads with the governor over alleged mismanagement.

But Assembly Majority Whip Peter Maroro has pleaded with the leaders to restrain themselves from inciting their supporters against each other during Raila’s maiden visit.

“I know we may be having a few issues among us but it’s important to talk to our supporters and ensure no one is booed during the party leader’s visit,” he said.

“As leaders, we must restrain our supporters from booing candidates or leaders they dislike. Its disrespect of the highest order and it may make our region gullible to opponents. We must bury our differences for the sake of building the party,” he said.

Maroro also urged organisers to ensure security is beefed up to avoid clash of supporters in front of Raila.

“I am calling for sobriety because I know how my fellow politicians always want to outsmart each other. These minor differences should not separate us when we have a major battle ahead of us in 2017. Our supporters should not heckle anyone during Odinga’s visit,” he added.
