A nominated MCA in Nyamira County, Damaris Mouni, has asked parents to stop practicing the outlawed FGM. She said FGM causes a lot of pain to girls.
Mouni said girl child rights must be respected and anyone found forcing the girls to undergo FGM must be arrested and prosecuted.
She added that FGM has been taking place silently in villages due to lack of sensitization to parents and teenage girls on the dangers of FGM.
She called on the government to intensify anti FGM campaigns to educate the society on the effects of FGM. “FGM was being practiced during our time because of ignorance. We should not allow our girls to undergo the cut that is illegal in the modern society," she said.
