Francis Njogu warned that he will not condone littering of polythene papers and wastes in the area and said days for polluters are numbered.

"We are going to deal firmly with those recklessly dropping polythene papers, plastics and other wastes to ensure that we keep this town clean and attractive through enacting laws governing waste management," said the MCA.

The ward representative took the lead by joining hundreds of members of a youth organisation in a cleaning exercise in parts of London estate where they braved the hot sun to collect polythene papers before burning them.

He said he was fully supporting the county government's efforts to restore the glory of Nakuru town, which was regarded in 2011 as one of the cleanest towns in East Africa.

“Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has embarked on a town beautification programme aimed at wooing investors into the town and as MCAs we support him fully,” said Njogu.

London estate is home to the famous Gioto dumpsite where waste from various parts of Nakuru town is discarded.

According to the MCA, the county government has plans to construct a multi-million waste recycling plant in the area to make use of the waste.

“The dumpsite will be turned into a waste recycling plant which will also create employment of youth,” he said, adding that there was need for residents to take part in making the county clean and secure for visitors and themselves.
