Abdurahman Mohamed Idris, MCA. Goreale Ward has warned parents against taking their students to 'backstreet' colleges saying they risk losing their money and children’s precious time.
Speaking at Goreale shopping centre on Friday afternoon, he said that parents continue to lose money to colleges that have not been registered and their children cannot secure jobs because they lack sufficient training.
“Our esteemed parents are selling their assets to educate their children and the end of the day they carry home a worthless piece of paper in the name of a certificate,” the MCA said.
He noted that many of these colleges will be seeking to take advantage of last year's poor KCSE performance to enroll students who failed for ghost courses.
“Some of these Courses range from days to weeks on offer while in other colleges students will be issued with fake certificates while still studying.
These are fake institutions that parents must avoid by all means," he said.
He called on the government to shield parents and students from what he termed as 'academic conmanship'.
This is as he urged colleges to train what they have been accredited for while calling for the immediate closure of all.
