Residents in Kisii have been warned against bribing themselves into the army during recruitment.
Speaking in Riana market on Monday, Riana Ward Representative Philip Obote Motonu said bribery is outlawed.
He said anybody offering bribes during the recruitment exercise will be arrested and prosecuted.
He said authorities in Kisii have been assured that the exercise will be free and fair.
The Kenya Defence Forces announced on Monday that the exercise in which 2,000 officers will be recruited will be free and fair.
"My appeal to the youth is that this exercise is free and no one will be charged a fee to join the KDF," Motonu said.
"Your duty is to present yourself and your certificates in the field. If you succeed, well and goo, if you do not, you wait for the next recruitment. But be cautioned that the exchange of money will not be allowed."
The month-long exercise will be conducted in all the 47 counties with 288 recruitment centres hosting the exercise.
