Nyamira County Secretary Erick Onchana has dismissed sensational claims from a section of residents who allege that MCAs who accompanied Governor John Nyagarama to the Meru Devolution Conference had reverted to spending their time in Nairobi night clubs.
The residents on social media forums accused the county government of paying allowances to the MCAs yet they those paid did not show up in Meru.
But speaking on phone from Meru on Thursday, Mr Onchana dismissed the allegations as ‘sheer propaganda’ and maintained that the entire crew was in Meru for the conference.
“I have read a number of misleading texts on the social media forums that a number of MCAs who came with us are in Nairobi and I want to confirm that is sheer propaganda,” Onchana said.
“We specifically came for the conference and I want to maintain that all those who accompanied the governor among them MCAs are busy following proceedings and they are 10 in number. No one is misusing county resources as claimed,” he added.
Onchana said the county only paid people who were attending after confirming their signatures at the end of each day’s session.
“The information is actually misleading because even if we had some who accompanied us missing the sessions, then let me assure residents that we only pay after confirming attendance signature which must be signed by each one,” he added.
“To that end, I want to say that the claims are orchestrated by desperate opposition leaders from the county who always wants us to look bad,” he said.
