Residents of Borabu's Nyaronge village have a reason to smile as MCAs from Gesima and Chepilat agreed to build a health facility that will cost Sh2 million.

This comes a day after Ken Atuti of Gesima and his Chepilat counterpart, Alfayo Mwongesa, agreed to share the cost since the border region comprises of residents from both sides.

On Tuesday, residents said the move was long overdue since the region has been marginalised because of its location at the border, with elected leaders blaming each other for the development stalemate.

“We are very happy with devolution and this is the right way to go. Leaders had ignored this region when it comes to development but the fact remains that we are voters and we elect these leaders. The dispensary will help us to get the health services easily,” said Haron Ndege.

Atuti urged leaders from Nyamira County to serve residents at the border region besides calling upon MPs from Borabu and Kitutu Masaba to assist Nyaronge primary school, which is said not to have received CDF funds from either constituency because of its location at the border.

“We have an obligation to ensure that residents get services from elected leaders. We will build the dispensary and this will be a signal to MPs from this region to desist from discriminating residents at border regions,” he said.

Construction of the dispensary will kick off early August with its completion expected to be by December and about 1,000 residents are expected to benefit from its services.
