Speaking to journalists of Monday, the MCAs argued that the miscommunication with journalists have been because there are no proper channels to issue their statements

The MCAS admitted that sometimes it is so hard to pass their communication in a simple language hence it ends up being misinterpreted by journalists.

“We have communication directors in the counties but they normally work for the governor. We also need someone to represent our interests. We need someone to guide us on writing and interpreting stuff,” said Petrolina Omondi.

She added that they often needed a proper working relationship with journalists but it has always been marred with disagreements and mistrust between the two groups.

Caroline Owen cited that the assemblies and MCAs were doing a great job but it never got highlighted.

“We often discuss very important bills and pass laws that impact people. However they often go unnoticed and a proper communication channel will ensure that people know we are impacting lives,” she added.

Another MCA, Farid Salim cited that the directors will always help in correcting and editing the drafts that they were to present before the assembly.

On his part, the Kenya Correspondent Chairman William Oloo admitted that some journalists also were lazy and too preoccupied with their works and did not know much about their assemblies.

“As journalists, we are keen to protect devolution and see that it succeed. We feel that working with MCAs will make a difference for both parties.” Added Oloo.
