Ward representatives in Kisumu County and the House clerk have disagreed over plans to procure communication gadgets. The Kisumu County government is reported to be planning to buy iPads at a cost of Sh5 million.The procurement of the gadgets is aimed at digitising operations at the Assembly.The move is also aimed at providing the MCAs with an opportunity to carry out their duties away from the office with ease.The MCAs have rejected the plan, saying the county does not have the funds to purchase the gadgets.The assembly clerk has however differed with the MCAs, maintaining that there is money to buy the iPads.A section of residents in the county has also criticised the decision to buy the new communication gadgets, terming it a waste of funds.Led by Fidelis Okoth, the residents said former MCAs should be asked to return the gadgets they were using in the first county assembly.“The county MCAs should stop misusing funds, let them ask the MCAs who served in the previous government to return the 49 iPads they were given and cut costs,” said Okoth.
