MCAs from Kisii now want the Orange Democratic Movement party to start grooming Secretary General Ababu Namwamba in preparations for the 2022 presidential polls.
The outspoken Budalangi lawmaker was first elected in 2007 through an ODM ticket and has raised ranks to the current senior most portfolio within the single largest party in the country.
County Assembly Majority Whip Henry Moracha and Suneka’s Evans Siko said Mr Namwamba has the ability to inherit political prowess from Mr Raila Odinga who has been in Kenyan political seen for over two decades.
“Our party ODM is the single largest and we want to strengthen it. However, we need someone who should be ready to succeed our party leader after his presidency in 2022. The ideal candidate is Namwamba,” said Mr Moracha.
“He has been tasted and actually passed. He has organized the party unlike in the past by doing less talking and coming up with concrete solutions especially our strategic plan as a party to win more seats in 2017,” he added.
Mr Siko on his part said the ODM SG was widely popular insisting that he is sellable to Kenyans based on his charisma and objectivity in handling matters.
“Namwamba is ripe to contest for the presidency in 2022 because he is widely acceptable in the country. He is an ideal replacement of iconic Raila Odinga. Time has come for us to back him so that when that time comes, a youthful person takes up the top leadership in our country,” he said.
