Members of the County Assemblies across the 47 counties have objected to the election dates that were announced by the Independent Boundaries and Electoral Commission (IEBC) terming them as unconstitutional.
Speaking during the County Assemblies Forum held in Mombasa, the legislatures said that the announced election date is a breach of their work contract.
The leaders said the dates come before the end of their five-year term as stipulated by the Constitution.
Speaking while addressing the meeting, the chairman of the County Assemblies Forum Nuh Abdi said that they had unanimously swore an oath as leaders to protect and uphold the constitution.
“Leaving office before the five-year term would be contrary to the oath of office that we undertook,” said Abdi.
The leaders also threatened to support the course for the removal of the IEBC if they don't review the election dates and streamline them to the five-year term as stipulated in the Constitution.
