A section of leaders from Tana River County has urged the county government to put in place adequate security measures ahead of the fresh presidential race slated for October 26.According to Baraka FM, the leaders, who spoke during a meeting with Governor Dhadho Godhana on Saturday, said there is need to ensure security is enhanced before, during and after the Thursday repeat poll for the sake of the region’s economy.Led by Garsen South MCA Roda Katisha, the leaders raised concern over the tension surrounding the election, arguing that the nation is likely to plunge into chaos if necessary measures are not taken into account. The leaders asked the security department in the county to inspect herders from various parts of the nation in order to avert any incidences of violence. They claimed that herders from different areas such as Kipini and Tana Delta have been causing endless conflicts in the region. The movement of the herders was necessitated by the ongoing operation in Boni Forest, which aims at flushing out the suspected al-Shabaab militia.Katisha also told the politicians who attended the meeting that residents were ready to cooperate with the county government to ensure security is enhanced during this electioneering period.
