Garsen South MCA Roda Katisha said conflict is looming between the area community and herders from outside the county over the grazing land.

Ms Katisha said that most herders from outside Tana River were the ones causing conflicts in the county especially in areas of Kipini, Tana Delta.

The conflicts were fueled in those areas after the national government ordered herders in Boni forest to leave with their animals as KDF was doing its operation over Al-shabaab threats in Lamu County and its environs.

The government has extended its security operation in Boni Forest for an unspecified period in Garissa, Lamu and Tana River counties.

Ms Katisha said herders who have been affected by the move have occupied almost the whole grazing land urging the security department to take the necessary action and make sure that outside herders return to their homes.

“Tana River residents had their set of rules to follow when migrating from one place to another. Herders from outside neither know the norms or humble request for the service.”

“The security department should inspect all herders from outside the county and put more strategies to take them back to their homes,” said the MCA.
