According to two nominated MCAs, majority of the women in the county do not engage in activities geared towards uplifting livelihoods.

This, they said, was not good for economic development in the county that is struggling to position itself as the economic hub in the region.

ODM nominated MCA Pamela Awuor asked the women to take advantage of the micro finance organizations that exist in the region to be able to borrow start-up capital to venture into business and thereafter use the proceeds from the ventures to form welfare groups which can be used to support their well-being.

"I urge women from this county to open their eyes and realize that times have changed and that there is need for them to form these women groups to get economic empowerment. Let them know that gone are the days where women entirely depended on men to provide basic needs.  Explore the many opportunities available to improve the quality of the lives you lead," she said on Friday.

On her part, nominated MCA Jane Atieno Omollo asked women to unite and look for funding and start businesses.

She reiterated on the need for women empowerment as a way to improve their lives.
