Nakuru County Assembly Speaker Susan Kihika has directed Members of County Assembly to put the County Executives to task to ensure that what the Assembly passes is implemented.
In her opening remarks during the opening of the third session of the Assembly on Tuesday evening, Kihika noted that although professional relationship between the Assembly and the Executive is paramount, this should only be looked at within the confines of principles and context.
She said that implementation of issues deliberated last year has become a major challenge and time has come to invoke provisions of all relevant existing laws to compel the Executives to do what is required of them.
“you should remain focused and not forget your oversight role guided by the constitution and existing statutes,’’ said Kihika.
In this regard she directed that all pending statements, reports and the status reports of all motions passed be made available within two weeks.
On the financial challenges facing the Assembly, Kihika called on members to be patient as they await a court ruling in February 20 budget ceilings.
The budget and appropriations committee was also tasked to expedite its report on the 2014 / 2015 supplementary budget.
At the close of the 2014 calendar the Assembly passed 18 bills and 73 substantive motions out of which six bills have been assented to become county laws.
The remaining bills include the Maternal, Newborn and Child Health bill, Solid Waste Management bill, among others.
