Members of the County Assembly in Machakos have refuted claims that they were bribed by Deputy President William Ruto to de-campaign Governor Dr Alfred Mutua.
The MCAs who addressed the media on Monday said the claims by the county chief are unfounded telling him to focus on his campaign and leave sideshows which have no help to the people of Machakos.
Led by Kangundo Central MCA Moses Musyoka, they said they will not be distracted by Mutua's troubles following the Court of Appeal's decision to quash bis victory during the August 8 general election.
"We have never met the deputy president," Musyoka said at the press briefing in Machakos town.
"He (Mutua) has every right to say whatever he wants to say. But let him know he will not succeed casting our names in bad light. If he has any evidence that we received money from the deputy president, let him present such evidence."
Mutua has been at loggerheads with a section of the members of the county assembly who he alleges were recently given money by the DP to frustrate his development agenda as well as by-election campaigns.
He, however, says the MCAs will not succeed in their plan since he has majority support among the people of Machakos.
