Garissa assembly committee members are demanding for lifestyle audit for all county treasury staff noting that their budget estimates exceeded the legal ceilings.
The county select committee on appropriation met the Senate and presented a memo detailing why it had rejected the 2016/17 financial year allocation estimates.
Assembly minority leader, Mohammed Abdinasir said the five-member team had also presented a certified copy of the memo to the anti-graft agency.
The bench urged the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to carry out a lifestyle audit to all the previous and current staff at the treasury who have since been perceived as looters of public funds.
Addressing the press on Monday, Mohamed issued that the targeted treasury officials are living beyond their means and with reports indicating that they have accumulated lots of wealth within a short time span.
“The 2016/17 budget estimates did not stick to the minimum thresholds adopted by the county assembly in its Fiscal Strategy Paper of 2016 as required by section 129 (b) of the Public Finances and Management Act 2012,” stated the minority leader.
Mohamed, who was in the company of his colleagues, said the memo had outlined key areas of concern that the Senate should be much aware of.
