Lakeview Member of County Assembly Simon Wanyoike has dismissed claims by a section of MCAs that the retreat at Crayfish hotel in Naivasha by the assembly during the weekend was a waste of public resources.
The retreat, which is said to have cost the assembly at least Sh4.1 million, has brought disagreements in the assembly, with a section of the MCAs saying that it did not achieve its purpose in reuniting them.
“Never at any time had we been as happy as an assembly. The peace we experienced and the joy we had together was unmeasured. Those saying that it was a waste of resources are people who are still bitter over the wrangles that hit us last time,” he said.
Wanyoike called for more of such initiatives, noting that it was important as it helped them air out their differences.
However, Dundori MCA Steve Kihara insisted that the entire retreat had failed to meet its intended purpose, and his colleagues failed to seize the opportunity to discuss and agree on various contentious issues affecting them.
“Nobody was interested in discussing issues affecting us. In fact all we did was spend a lot of time playing football and drinking,” he said.
