Mombasa County Assembly representatives on Tuesday afternoon engaged in a fist fight over an attempt to bring a motion to sack Speaker Thadius Rajwayi.
Chaos in the assembly started after the speaker ordered two MCAs out of the house for misconduct after they differed on the motion to remove Rajwayi.
The assembly had been divided into two camps, one supporting Speaker Rajwayi and the other wanting the speaker to be removed from office.
One camp was led by Kongowea MCA Jabez Oduor which was supporting the Speaker while the other was led by Mohamed Hatimy, a nominated MCA and assembly finance committee chair who wanted to impeach the Speaker.
Hatimy who was sitting next to Oduor engaged him in a fight prompting him to fight back which forced the speaker to order their expulsion out of the house.
The decision to expel the two did no go well with some of the MCAs who wanted the Speaker out of office and the chaos started.
Several MCAs were injured in the scuffle.
The problem started after allegations that MCA Hatimy and MCA Saad Faraj destroyed the Speaker’s portrait and vowed to impeach him.
