Led by Bogichora ward MCA Beattah Omanga, the county legislators accused Governor John Nyagarama-led county government of being anti-development.

The ward represenatives, who were speaking during a funeral ceremony at Riamandere village, accused the county boss of lacking innovative plans and strategies.

“Since the inauguration of county government, while other counties are launching mega projects, we in Nyamira are lagging behind,” said Omanga, a former majority leader.

“The only project I’m aware of is planting of flowers along Nyamira town,” he said amidst laughter from mourners.

He blamed county advisers for what he termed “myopic and insensitive” counsel.

“There is no any known initiative that can be applauded by us. We are aware of scrupulous advisers in the county who give myopic advises on development-related plans”, he said.

Chipilat MCA Alfayo Mwongeresa accused his colleagues in the county assembly of accepting incentives from the county boss whenever the county government is under scrutiny.

“Some of the MCAs are easily lured by the government. Instead of playing their oversight role, they are divided along party affiliations to hamper developments,” he said.

Gesima MCA Ken Atutu, however, defended the county government from the attacks but admitted much has to be done to improve livelihoods of area residents.

“I know there are questionable projects that have been launched but we ought to find a new way to deal with alleged grand corruption in our government,” he said.
