Kisumu Members of County Assembly have given the county government 30 days to appoint an executive member for finance.
The MCAs want the executive to also look into the issue of the acting finance officer George Ongaya and the suspended officer Omullo Okal.
According to the MCAs, if the government cannot reinstate Okal, then they should appoint a new finance officer because Ongaya has his own docket which is planning.
The members also wanted an explanation as to why Okal was still being paid salary while Ongaya was receiving his on an acting basis.
The motion to appoint the executive for finance was moved by Kanyagwal ward Representative Charles Aguko who said it was time an officer was appointed to the docket.
"This acting finance officer did not adhere to the call by the MCAs to appear before the house on Wednesday morning," he said.
The MCAs said they should come up with punitive measures to the errant members who don’t want to honor the sermons.
The chairman of the budget committee Willis Ogonyo however said the budget for the financial year 2014/15 has not been achieved thus the need to get a substantive financial officer who can take care of the issues.
Railways Ward representative Isaiah Onyango however urged the members to wait for the finance officer to appear before the house so that they can raise the questions since it is only then that they will get appropriate response.
Acting Speaker Gabriel Ochieng told the members that they have the powers to tell those in charge to appoint an executive in the finance docket adding that the appointment was overdue.
The executive member will be summoned to appear before the house again next week on Wednesday.
