Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has accused his MCAs of blackmailing him to pass a bloated county budget.

Mutua says he cannot be coerced to approve a budget that will plunder public funds.

He says the MCAs wanted the money to cater for foreign trips and other recreational activities.

“This is against the will of those who elected them,” said Mutua.

“The assembly has proposed a huge budget to cater for trips and recreation purposes against the wishes of those who elected them,” he added.

The governor says the unreasonable demands from the MCA are making his work difficult hindering service delivery.

“They are going to big offices in Nairobi maligning my name due to the fact that I am against the misuse of public funds, “Mutua said.

“Leadership is about service to the people and not the accumulation of wealth and other selfish interests,” said Mutua.
