Deputy Minority Leader Ken Atuti, who also chairs Budget Committee, revealed that the MCAs were unhappy with the manner in which over Sh200 million  were used by various departments in 2015 supplementary budget.

According to him, many department have been unable to account for over Sh200 million with another Sh80 million believed to have been diverted to wrong functions.

“We are retreating to Itibo on Friday to finalise on supplementary budget which has been delayed because we are not satisfied in the manner which various departments used Sh200 million that was part of supplementary budget,” he said.

“Again, departmental chiefs have been unable to explain why Sh80 million was diverted to other functions which haven’t materialised especially the road and health sectors,” he added.

Atuti hinted the MCAs were planning to trim the supplementary budget for office of governor and key ministries with roads and health topping as they demand accountability for last year’s supplementary budget.

“To be honest, we are not happy in the manner executive is using taxpayers money. Health and Roads ministries must explain to us how they spent the allocations last year because our records are not tallying. We have summoned them but they are yet to appear and the best thing now is to trim the budget,” he added.

The MCAs will conclude the retreat on Sunday before proceeding to Meru County for annual Devolution Conference.
