Debate at the Kisumu County Assembly was adjourned temporarily after members demanded for clarification from the house leadership on the fate of their medical insurance that is no longer in force after the insurer allegedly walked out of the cover.
Wawidhi ward representative Moses Ochele informed the house that he was facing stiff financial challenges for his ailing wife’s medical care after she was denied treatment at the Aga Khan hospital in Kisumu over nonexistence of the cover.
“Today morning my wife was denied access to treatment because the company is said to have pulled out our medical cover,” said Mr Ochele.
He pleaded with the members to adjourn house business and deliberate on the matter as urgent saying he had no money and this had stripped him off resources unexpectedly.
The members have accused the leadership for trivializing the concern as it had been raised earlier by members whose family members had suffered a similar setback.
Masogo Nyang’oma MCA Samuel Ong’ow said his son was last month turned away from hospital as a result of the company’s failure to offer the services.
He asked the house not to commence debate while members were suffering cases of family members being denied access to health.
“We should not commence any discussion without deliberating on this as our lives and those of our families are in danger being that we cannot access treatment,” said Mr Ong’ow.
The members had taken the health cover that is expected to expire in November this year but are unable to benefit from the insurer.
