A member of Uasin Gishu County Assembly has asked the Salaries and Renumeration Commission (SRC) to rescind its decision to scrap allowances awarded to MCAs whenever they attend assembly sittings.
The Kaptagat MCA Jonathan Ng'etich has warned that scrapping MCA allowances might lead to the assembly experiencing regular quorum hitches.
Speaking at the assembly on Wednesday when seconding a motion to adopt county assembly calendar, the MCA challenged the assembly forum to write to the SRC over the matter.
He, however, asked fellow ward representatives to always attend assembly sessions and committee meetings despite the scrapping of sitting allowances.
"I foresee a situation where lack of allowances to members might kill the progress of devolution as MCA's won't have interest attending assembly sessions subsequently ending up not passing laws and executing their oversight mandate," noted the youthful MCA.
"The CAF should communicate to SRC and see how the allowances can be restored or else most MCA's would rather do their own business than attend Assembly sessions," he added.
A few months before the August 8 polls, the SRC scrapped all allowances the MCAs, Members of Parliament and Senators were earning for attending assembly sessions and committee meetings as well as cutting down on their salaries same to other state officers including the President and his deputy.
