President Uhuru Kenyatta sacked Lenku, a demand that the opposition has spearheaded over the last few months following the current state of security.

The opposition coalition had accused Ole Lenku of incompetence and demanded that the head of state fires him or he steps aside together with the Inspector General of Police who opted to resign.

Kisumu Assembly Acting Speaker Gabriel Ochieng said the move by the President to relieve Lenku off his duties was a good move made too late.

“The current state of security today is pathetic and Kenyans have been living in few for the past months. It is of course a brilliant move to sack him but the President needs to appoint a person who can deliver in that powerful yet sensitive docket,” said Ochieng.

Nominated MCA Farida Salim also expressed hope that the solution to the current state of insecurity in the country was close to being realised.

“It was crystal clear that Lenku and Kimaiyo had failed to secure Kenyans and their exit really means a lot to the common mwananchi. I am appealing to Uhuru to pick a better nominee this time round,” she said.

The two leaders were speaking yesterday at the county assembly premises.
