Members of the Kisumu County Assembly have launched a drive to push for high voter turnout in the region that overwhelmingly supports Opposition chief Raila Odinga.
Led by Kisumu Central MCA Seth Kanga, the ward representatives vowed to convince those who did not vote on August 8 election turn up to back NASA's presidential candidate in the fresh poll due next month.
"One of our strategies is to sensitise locals so that those who did not vote can see a reason to do so on October 17," Kanga told the Standard.
He pointed out that more than 38,000 registered voters in Kisumu Central constituency alone did not participate in the poll which presidential outcome was nullified by the Supreme Court.
Ahero MCA Kennedy Ooko said they would go back to their wards to popularise the Opposition coalition and drum up support for Raila to ensure he triumphs over Jubilee's President Uhuru Kenyatta.
"We are not leaving anything to chance. We all want our people to come out and vote Raila in," said Ooko.
