The locals led by John Kariuki on Tuesday speaking in Thika town said the 1 acre land has been used as children’s recreational facility since 1969.

“We are aware over the plans by a section of MCAs to grab the land because some of the ward representatives are using some people to occupy land illegally,” said Kariuki.

He said the locals will not sit and watch the land to be grabbed by selfish leaders who instead of focusing on service delivery are interested in engaging dubious ways of acquiring public property.

However, James Maina Kiambu Lands executive assured that he will check the records to establish the legal owners of the land.

“Politicians should not use their power to grab public land. We will check the records to verify the owners of the land,” he stated.
