Kiambu County Assembly MCAs on Tuesday passed a Bill to regulate alcohol business in the region.
The Bill will come into law once it will be signed by Governor Ferdinand Waititu.
Anthony Ikonya the majority leader said bar owners have not been paying licenses since Waititu took over the leadership of the county.
“Passing of the Alcoholic Drinks Bill 2018 will not punish traders doing legal business but it is meant to uproot traders doing illegal businesses in the region,” said Ikonya.
He said bar owners will have to reapply for licenses and display them to be inspected by anyone at the business premises.
The Majority leader added that public forums will be held for residents to approve or disagree with it.
Ikonya stated that the nightclubs will be limited to operate between 2pm to 3 am during weekends.
