The Nyamira County Education Support bill 2014 is long overdue, according to majority of the MCAs.

Speaking during the debate, Kiabonyoru ward MCA James Sabwengi said adoption of the bill is a great initiative as it will help needy children from the county and also facilitate educating of students from poor backgrounds.

"I stand to support the bill. Its a half a year behind schedule but upon its enactment for implementation, Nyamira children from poor backgrounds will benefit of it," he said.

"Brains are fundamental in development and more funds should be flushed into education to support growth of the county," added Sabwengi.

Richard Bosire also supported the bill for approval and urged for its quick implementation once enacted, adding that many children had been school absentees and lauded the bill as 'right' and meant to promote education.

"Speaker sir, I stand to second the bill. In my observations, I have noted many children have not been going to school and this is the right bill for their school fee funding," he said.

According to the bill, the Nyamira County government will be providing funds, loans and bursaries to students who join colleges and universities.
