This follows fear by many of them that they could lose in the coming General Election and therefore looking for something to cushion themselves with.

Kisumu Speaker Anne Adul said the MCAs should hasten the process before the end of the financial year.

“Members you must work with speed to generate a Bill on the send off packages to cushion our colleagues. Let us do this before the end of the financial year so that it can be factored in the budget,” said Adul.

The proposal was supported by a majority of the members.

The Assembly has been given the mandate to follow up on the matter to the House Powers and Privileges Committee after its chairperson Benta Ndeda made the recommendations.

“We must move with speed so that Kisumu County Assembly can be in a position to receive proper package when the time comes,” said Ms Ndeda.

Nominated MCA Aslam Khan said as members representing special groups, they are also entitled to the privileges given to their elected counterparts.

“We would not wish to leave empty handed at the end of the five years,” said Nyakach Central ward representative Elijah Omondi.
