Incumbents running for office in the August 8 poll as Independent candidates might lose their access to theassembly and perks.

This is after several Kiambu MCAs were blocked from the assembly and denied perks over legal technicalities.

A memo sent to Kiambu county assembly clerk directs that MCAs cleared to run as Independents should stop enjoying the benefits like their colleagues.

It also directs the Speaker to ensure they do not participate in plenary sessions and sittings.

A legal counsel from the county said the Independents had breached Article 194 (1)(i) of the constitution and Section 14(4) and (5) of the Political Parties Act.
