A section of Kilifi MCAs has criticised Sheikh Juma Ngao for scolding Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi over their push for the secession of the Coast region.Led by Shimo la Tewa MCA Sammy Ndago, the leaders on Friday said Ngao has no mandate to attack the two county bosses for fighting to liberate the residents in the Coast region from what they termed as poor governance. The MCAs hit out at Ngao, claiming he was bitter after being denied tenders by the two county governments. The also warned Sheikh Ngao against lecturing them concerning the secession debate, arguing that the cleric does not have the interest of Coast residents at heart. "Ngao is a disgrace to the religious community. He will offer support only after getting favours. He is like a chameleon which does not know what it wants. We are behind these two leaders...Ngao has no moral authority to lecture us on who should lead the secession debate," said Ndago, as quoted by the Star.Ndago’s sentiments were echoed by Nominated MCA Nuzla Sahhib and Sokoni ward MCA Gilbert Peru who said that they fully support the secession debate. This comes after Ngao said Kingi and Joho are not qualified to lead the Coast region should it secede, arguing that they have been unable to develop their counties and account for the billions they receive from the national government. When reached for comment, Ngao, the chairman of the Kenya Muslim National Advisory Council said he has never applied for any tender in the two counties as claimed, adding that arguments are based on facts."I have not applied for any tender from Kilifi or Mombasa because I know Kingi cannot give me any. I do not live on tenders,” said Ngao, as quoted by The Star.
