Bomorenda Ward MCA John Ombati said the few police officers in the ward have failed to tackle increased crime in the region.

The ward rep stated that following the abduction of Pastor Esther Bochaberi Oyugi who was murdered and her body dumped in a sugarcane plantation in Migori county residents have been living in fear.

"The rate at which criminals are invading the ward to terrorise innocent locals is high. Matiang'i should consider deploying more security officers in the ward to boost the security of my people," he said.

Ombati stated that no one should die just because he or she has refused to sell his or her property to well-known cartels in the region.

He accused current police officers over laxity and urged Kisii County commissioner Godfrey Kigochi to punish officers who are failing in their duties to protect the residents of Kisii County.

"Police officers who go to sleep as early as 6 pm should be transferred to areas prone to cattle rustling where they should be awake 24 hours instead of being kept in the area without doing any work. Kigochi should act immediately to ensure all officers are responsible for delivering their duties," he noted.
